Reports to: Service Manager

Collaborates With: Yacht Systems Manager

Key Deliverables

Yacht Systems Fitting Technician installs and commissions propulsion, electrical, electronic and mechanical systems on yachts in a production environment.

Occupational Duties


  • Use tools and equipment in a safe manner
  • Use common stationary power tools
  • Perform drilling and cutting operations in metals
  • Select and use appropriate fasteners and fittings
  • Follow safe yard and marina practices
  • Select and use lubricants and coolants
  • Perform metal fabrication operations
  • Perform basic math calculations
  • Perform accurate measurement operations
  • Perform layout and fitting operations
  • Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Perform lofting operations
  • Install deck hardware and fittings

Vessel Systems

  • Install thru-hulls and underwater equipment
  • Install and commission cabin heating systems
  • Install and commissiononboard A/C and refrigeration equipment
  • Install and commissionpropane systems
  • Install and commissiondavits, hoists and windlasses
  • Install and commissionfire suppression equipment and lock outs
  • Install and commissionmechanical and electrical steering systems
  • Inspect, install, winterize and repair fresh/waste water plumbing systems
  • Install and commissionwater makers
  • Install and commissionbilge pump systems
  • Install and commission inflatable vessels (dinghies)


  • Understanding of basic electrical theory
  • Use electrical measurement tools
  • Describe workplace AC systems and maintain equipment
  • Install and commission DC power systems
  • Install and commission DC distribution systems
  • Install and commission inverters and onboard AC systems
  • Install and commission marine electronics
  • Install and commission battery systems
  • Install and commission alternator charging systems
  • Install and commission alarms, gauges and senders
  • Install and commission generator sets

Engines and Related Support Systems

  • Understanding of reciprocating engine theory and operation
  • Remove and install engines
  • Perform engine pre-start inspection
  • Install and commission engine room ventilation systems
  • Install and commission fuel tanks, lines, pumps and filters
  • Install and commission exhaust systems
  • Install and commissionengine control systems
  • Install and commissionautopilot systems
  • Install and commission engine mounts, shafting and alignment

Marine Drive Systems

  • Remove and install propellers
  • Install inboard/pod drives
  • Install outboard drives
  • Install and commission thrusters and trim tabs
General Duties
  • Identify production issues and report per company policy
  • Maintain an organized work area
  • Care for company and customer property as per company policy
  • Provide and maintain personal hand tools
  • Basic computer and Microsoft office skills
  • Certified as a Marine Service Technician
  • 12,000 hours working directly in the marine industry in a role that matches the required Occupational Duties noted above
  • A combination of related trades experience and marine systems that demonstrates competency in the required Occupational Duties above.
  • Those with demonstratedcompetency in either mechanical or electrical aspects of the Occupational Duties will be considered for specialized roles.
